The Omaka River is mostly ankle deep, but it can be anything from non-existent to knee deep, which makes it a fairly easy walk. At each cache in this series is a way point giving the closest car park, and the terrain rating is based on this. And in deference to W.A.S.P's favourite mode of transport, I have also provided way points for 4WD access in the caches Omaka Railway and Omaka Rock. But you get minus points if you are using a vehicle!
Summer is the best time to do this series. During summer the water in the river is swapped out for flowering california poppies. Awesome! But weird.
Bit of a half-hearted attempt at a bonfire, if you ask me. On the other hand, Marlborough is dry and if all this went up in smoke the fire would probably get out of control.
Supporting the GeoKids program - my caches have treasure, makes them fun for kids to find!
