4.23. Unarchiving a Geocache

The archiving of a geocache is intended to be a permanent status. That is why only community volunteer reviewers and Geocaching HQ staff have the capability to unarchive it. This is done only in rare circumstances and only if it meets the current Geocache Listing Guidelines.

If a geocache is archived by a reviewer or staff for lack of maintenance it will not be unarchived.

Geocache Description:

Experimental Geography was a touring exhibition. This exhibition explored the juxtapositions between geographical study and artistic experience. The mediums ranged from interactive computer units through to experimental cartography. The perspective of this theme was that “geography benefits from the study of specific histories, sites, and memories. Every estuary, landfill, and cul-de-sac has a story to tell.”

This cache came as my artistic response to the exhibition. I have placed a large container just on the outskirts of the Sydney College of the Arts campus in Lilyfield. This geocache as a response to an exhibition is suppose to act as an equivalent invitation that the exhibition also created. Not only do I ask for the cacher to escape the confines of the, rarely used, sidewalk to search for this cache in the nearby trees I, also, ask that one does not leave the space as they left it. This could be a footprint or a movement of a log, but in homage to Francis Alÿs and the work of 500 volunteers, this space will not only have the impact of human interaction but that the interaction can be seen as a tool of communication between the seeker and nature’s response. Visit this space repeatedly and see just how nature or a fellow cacher experience your subtle move and replaced it (or added to it) with their own. Enjoy!
