In the past I have come across some pretty interesting locations thanks to Geocaching. Today I hope to take you somewhere you have never been before. I have driven past this location hundreds of times and have never noticed the tiny path thru the woods. One night I was looking on Google satellite maps and noticed what looked like a cemetery beyond the woods. Today I went out and found the trailhead and explored the area.
Welcome to the abondoned cemetery of Canniff Mills.
The majority of markers on site are from the 1800's and are very hard to read. After doing a little research I have learned that the city is in the process of fixing broken stones and restoring them.
John Priory, the last person to be buried in the cemetery died on Dec. 22nd, 1909. Though I am unsure of when it actually opened, the earliest burial I can find took place in 1848.
The geocache contains a log book, a stamp, and marker. These items are not to be removed.
As always with cemetery caches, please be respectful of the area. No night caching.
