This geocache is not meant to be terribly difficult to locate and should be relatively simple, even for new geocachers. This cache was placed to raise some awareness of the Maryland Historical Society (this cache has been placed with their permission). If you have never had the opportunity to stop by and see their museum, it is worth a stop while visiting Baltimore. Housed inside the museum is the original Star Spangaled Banner Manuscript...the poem that became the National Anthem of the United States, written by Francis Scott Key. Also inside is the original statue of Lady Baltimore that used to stand atop the Battle Monument in downtown Baltimore. There are also great exhibits that cover 400 years of history in Maryland from Revolutionary times, to the War of 1812, to life on the Chesapeake Bay.
There is a parking lot for museum patrons on the Monument Street side of the property. There are also nice tables and chairs nearby in case you want to bring lunch! It's a great spot in Mt. Vernon also just a short walk from the Washington Monument! If you choose to visit the museum while out geocaching, please be aware that they charge an admission ($9 for adults, $7 for seniors, and $6 for students with ID and children. It's free for firefighters, police, and active duty military!
The cache, as initially placed, contains pencils and a log as well as a couple small toys, a TB, a CD, and for the first time finder, a free admission coupon to the museum!
I hope you enjoy the cache and like the neighborhood!
