This bush is one of the few remnants of native bush which once covered the Northern Wairoa River's catchment, and the only public bush in Takiwira/Dargaville which is remisicent of the town's pre-settlement days. It is relatively young and devoid of the mature trees which once populated this whole area, however, give it a few years and you'll be given more of glimpse to this regions historical wonder.
Keep an eye and an ear out for the cheeky fantail (piwakawaka) and the small, but loud, grey warbler (riroriro) who still call this bush home!
