Geocache Description:

This cache was placed during Conservation Week 2016, and is located on one of the less-used entrances to the beach.  It is found in one of the small harakeke flax plantings on the track down to the beach

Ripiro/Baylys Beach is home to seals, toheroa, tuatua, dolphins and the northern limit for NZ's endangered Maui and Hector's dolphin (to name a few).  These precious dolphins are declining in number, and knowing where they are is critical for us to asses how well they are doing.  So, if you see one, call it in to our Kauri Coast office in Takiwira/Dargaville.

Be careful if you decide to venture out into the water to swim, as the beach is notorious for rips and strong undercurrents which have proved fatal in the past.  If in doubt, talk to one of the locals in the area, or dig a hole in the sand, fill it with water and swim in that laugh
