Geocache Description:

The Chinese New Year of 2017 falls on January 28th, and the festival will last to February 11th, about 15 days in total

Chinese New Year, also known as Spring Festival, is the most important traditional festival in China. It is a time for annual family reunion, which is as important as Christmas Day in western countries. Here are some fun facts about this holiday. As an official public holiday, Chinese people can get seven day's absence from work, from February 7th to 13th.

When is the Chinese New Year you ask? The Chinese New Year dates vary slightly between years, but it usually comes during the period from January 21st to February 20th in Gregorian calendar. Chinese New Year dates changes every year because the festival is based on the Chinese Lunar Calendar.

The lunar calendar is associated with the movement of the moon, which usually defines traditional festivals like the Chinese New Year (Spring Festival), Lantern Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, and Mid-Autumn Day. The lunar calendar is also associated with 12 animal signs in Chinese zodiac, so every 12 years is regarded as a cycle.

2016 is a Year of the Monkey

2017 is a Year of the Roster

2018 is a Year of the Dog

Year of the Fire Roosters (2017) The rooster ranks tenth of all the animals in the Chinese zodiac. The rooster is a clever animal who is frequently compared to a smart person. Image is all important to the Fire Rooster; he spends a lot of time making himself look good, making him appear vain. He is flaunty and dramatic, yet he is a brilliant social organizer who loves to plan parties and gatherings. Fire Roosters tend to be bossy and this, combined with their bluntness, can cause hurt feelings and bruised egos amongst colleagues. Still, these Roosters make great leaders, who are creative, diligent and motivated. Likely Vocations for Rooster people: Roosters are more motivated than any other animal in the Chinese Zodiac. They are multi-talented. Good career choices are: trouble-shooter, detective, doctor, surgeon, psychiatrist, actor, dancer, musician, restaurateur, publicist, travel writer, journalist, soldier, athlete, teacher, police officer, book keeper, accountant and most of all a great bull - shit artist. The Rooster's blunt manner and direct approach to life makes them poor diplomats. Rooster women are devoted to duty and seldom boast. They have exceptional vitality and patience and do well in jobs requiring carefulness and flexibility, like social work and teaching.
