From the early days of the Long Beach peninsula, tourists flocked here from Portland, Tacoma, Olympia, and Seattle to enjoy the cool summer breeze, the miles of clean hardpacked sand and the plentiful tourist accommodations. While the years have changed, things somehow stay the same.
Today's Long Beach in many ways is like a slice of life from the 1950's -- the old buildings downtown, the merry go round and arcade, corny gift shops and more. Little Mom and Pop convenience stores are still a part of the community, too...offering up all the last-minute essentials and treats needed for a day at the beach.
