How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

This Wherigo cartridge will lead you on a tour of the murals around the town of 100 Mile House. The first 3 murals would be easier to drive between with ample parking for the 4th mural and a short walk for the remainder. The final has been placed with permission and is available at all times of the day. As always, please contact me if you are running into issues or have questions.

You can download the cartridge here.

Wherigo

With a couple Wherigo's completed, we've found that many geocachers avoid them simply because they do not understand what they are or how they work. As such we've started hiding some Wherigo lesson caches around 100 Mile House to instruct our fellow Cariboo cachers on them.

This first Wherigo is the simplest type available and the basis for all Wherigo cartridges, zones. All Wherigo's are built with a 'zone' in mind, which is an area programmed into the cartridge. This zone can be as small or as large as desired. Once a player enters the zone, something will happen. This could be as simple as displaying a message and activating the next zone or as complex as containing items and people to interact with. As players progress through the cartridge, additional zones and their contents become available. More advanced Wherigo cartridges will leave zones as hidden until the player gets within the zone. These typically have puzzles that need to be solved and the player should know where to go, but it would not be confirmed until they arrive.

To start the game please download the cartridge, and head to the posted coordinates. When you complete the cartridge, be sure to go to www.wherigo.com and mark the Wherigo as complete. You will find the completion code in your inventory after you have finished the cartridge. Your geocaching credentials can also be used on www.whereigo.com.

How to play a Wherigo cartridge?

Nowadays most people with a smartphone can easily play a Wherigo cartridge.

iPhone
Download the official Wherigo application. Download the cartridge from within the application. You need to select the "Pocket PC" format when downloading the cartridge. Make sure that the application can use "Location Services" in the privacy menu.

Android
Download the WhereYouGo application. You need to select the "Pocket PC" format when downloading the cartridge. Although I don't have an Android device I have been told that unless you're using Chrome on Android 4.0, you must download the file to your PC, then connect your phone and copy it to your phone.

Garmin
Certain Garmin devices can also play Wherigo cartridges natively. Please refer to your Garmin manual for instructions.

Windows Mobile
Download the official Wherigo Player for Pocket PC from the Wherigo site.

Since I can't test on all devices, let me know if the cartridge does not work for you. I'll try to help as much as I can. The cartridge is confirmed to work on iPhone Wherigo and Android WhereYouGo.
