In 1922 Fred Walker and Cyril Callister had the bright idea of using yeast extract to create a wonderful source of vitamin B and a tasty new spread named VEGEMITE. Brewers yeast is one of the richest known natural sources of the vitamin B group.
Walker turned to the Australian public to officially name his spread, but it was Walker's daughter who chose the winning name Vegemite and in 1923 Vegemite was released. It was advertised as "Delicious on sandwiches and toast, and improves the flavour of soups, stews and gravies". It took ten years to gain popularity!
Even now Vegemite remains relatively unchanged in it's recipe and label. Over 22 million Vegemite jars are sold every year!
In 2008 one billion Jars of Vegemite had been produced, thats a lot of Vegemite – equivalent to filling 200 Olympic sized pools, 250,000 Holden Utes, filling the Sydney Opera House 13 times over or having it spread on enough toast to circle the planet many times
The geocache is a small container large enough to house a pencil, log book and small swaps, it should be a quick find. As always please replace with care,as there is only one place for it!! Be on the look out for muggles as you replace.
