This cache was originally placed for the the First State Challenge 2016 sponsored by Delaware Geocachers! Although the challenge has ended, this cache is still available to be found!

FSC-2016 Port Mahon

Cache Details:
The cache is hidden out on a crumbling concrete pier. You won't have to walk out far at all, but still, take caution, as the concrete is fairly rough and not fun to scrape up against. There is no need to bushwhack, an additional waypoint is included if for some reason you can't find your way in. PLEASE, don't take the hand carved letterbox stamp, ink pad, and some of the 'special' items inside.



Description:
Port Mahon is a small, unincorporated community east of Little Creek. Port Mahon Road trails the edge of the Delaware Bay and is an excellent spot for birdwatching, with black-backed gulls, double-crested cormorants, and terns frequently perched on posts on the shore. You'll also pass an osprey platform on the way to this cache. Make sure to bring a camera to take pictures of the birds and the bay! I saw a flock of cardinals out here once, while not uncommon it was definitely out of place. There have also been marsh wrens, song sparrows, and some glossy ibises out in the distance. There's a completely unobstructed view of the Delaware Bay, and on a clear day you can see New Jersey.
