Cache Details:
Park in Rittenhouse Park and hike about .3 miles on well-marked blue blaze Mason Dixon trail along the Christina River to cache. Stay on the trail even when it seems to go out of the way, it loops back to within about 30 feet of the cache. No need to cross the stream. Cache is before you come to a 2nd small footbridge. If you have time, walk out on the footbridge over the river for a nice view.
Description:
The Rittenhouse Park is a beautiful 45 acre natural area City of Newark Park with 1.95 miles of natural hiking trails and access to the Christiana Creek.
The blue blazed Mason Dixon Trail follows the Christina River for 5 miles on west side of Newark. This is just part of The Mason-Dixon Trail which connects the Appalachian Trail with the Brandywine Trail. This 199 mile long trail starts at Whiskey Springs on the Appalachian Trail, in Cumberland County, PA and heads east towards the Susquehanna River, passing through Gifford Pinchot State Park en route. The trail then follows the west bank of the Susquehanna River south to Havre de Grace, MD. Across the river, the M-DT continues east, passes through Elk Neck State Forest, then on to Iron Hill Park, DE, north along the Christina River and White Clay Creek to the White Clay Creek Preserve. The trail then heads northeast to its eastern terminus at Chadds Ford, PA on the banks of the Brandywine River.
