Geocache Description:

Another in the Church Micro series, this church holds special significance for me as it was where I got married in 1998!

The cache is not at the given coordinates, which are for the church itself. You will need to visit the church surrounds to find some straightforward information which will let you calculate the final coordinates for the cache. The cache is located about a ten minute walk away. You can drive to near GZ, but parking there is not easy. Parking near to the church can also be difficult at times, but you may find a space in the car park of the nearby pub, which isn’t open as often as some would like...

Holy Trinity, Stanton-in-Peak was built in 1839, but wasn't consecrated, by the Bishop of Lichfield, until September 29th, 1875. This is when the first Vicar of Stanton-with-Birchover was appointed. Nowadays, the Vicar of All Saints’ Church, Youlgreave is responsible for this church, along with St Michael's Church, Birchover & St Michael & All Angels’ Church, Middleton-by-Youlgreave!

There are several features of note within the church. An Italian Holy Water Stoup in bronze & dated 1596 takes pride of place & beyond it is a Florentine Quattrocento style tabernacle, with praying angels in three tiers, used to hold a dedication inscription of the church.

There are also two carved Jacobean oak chairs in the sanctuary as well as some carved heads on the vestry screen. Over the main door is a small gallery containing an old barrel organ!

The church tower has six bells which were installed in 2003. The original bells have been relocated to St. Giles' Church, Hartington.

The final coordinates for the cache are N53 10.ABC W001 38.DEF. Look at the following clues to work out the missing digits.

1) To the right of the main church entrance is a bench dedicated to Alexander Pope. To find A, add the first & last digits of the year in which he died.

2) On the same plaque, total the letters in the first two words to give you B.

3) Finally, count the number of letters in Alexander’s middle name & take away the first number in the year of his death to give you C.

4) Opposite the church, as you walk down towards School Lane, there are two fire hydrant signs (one is redundant & blank). Go to the lower one, beside a gate. Look for the three digit number in the upper section of the H. The third digit gives you D.

5) Next the the bus shelter, a little lower down Main Road, is a letter box. Near the bottom of the plaque detailing collection times is the unique letterbox ID, beginning with DE4. The middle digit of the final three digit number gives you E.

6) Finally, return to the hydrant sign. The single digit in the lower half of the H gives you F.

You are looking for a small Tupperware box, less than 500m away. (Yes, it is genuine Tupperware!) The hint will make sense if you are in the correct location! Please note that the cache is NOT hidden in the wall! I hope you enjoy your visit to Holy Trinity, Stanton-in-Peak & the view you get at GZ!

Congratulations to Alfreton Divers for FTF!
