In the Spring of 1863 a 2.5 acre lot of land was purchased for a church and burial ground for $20.00. This Episcopal Methodist Church was a frame building on 15 Sideroad named Bethel Methodist Church. In the first years Bethel, Thedford and Arkona made up the Arkona Circuit. The first ministers in charge of the service were laymen. In 1892 a new white brick church was built.
In 1894 Bethel Church was transferred to the Warwick Circuit. In 1912 Bethel was returned to the Arkona Circuit, where it remained until 1923. Then it was moved to the Warwick Circuit again. There was a Ladies’ Aid and later the Women’s Missionary Society. Other organizations included the Epworth League, Young People’s Society, Explorers and Baby Band.
After church union in 1925 the church became known as Bethel United Church.
The final service in the church was held on the last Sunday of June in 1963. Some of the members went to Arkona United Church and others went to Warwick United Church.
In 1970 the building was sold and demolished. Its stained glass window went to the Forest Museum. A small brick memorial marks the church’s location in front of Bethel Cemetery
