The Township of Wilmot was incorporated during the first council meeting in the newly built town hall on this property, January 21, 1850.
In 1863, Wilmot Centre lost the distinction of being the seat of municipal government. A new town hall opened in Baden. The old town hall was rented out until it was sold in 1867 for $80.00 and moved to it's present location at the corner of Boullee and Jacob Streets in New Hamburg.
In 2000, the owners of this property donated this 1/2 acre to mark the site of the original Hall. The Oasis in the Centre park officially opened October 1, 2000.
