Across the street and up a grassy lane from the Fanthorp Inn, is the final resting place of Kenneth Lewis Anerson, last VP of The Republic of Texas.
In June 1845, after presiding at Washington on the Brazos when Texas Senate approved annexation of Texas as the 28th state, Anderson fell ill and stopped at the Fanthrop Inn to rest. He died there on July 3rd of his illness and was buried in the cemetery across from the Inn. In March of 1846, the town was renamed and establieshed as Anderson in his honor.
Enjoy this piece of history, but be respectful as family lives nearby. Daylight hours only. Great Texas history here!
