Plan on a couple hours round trip to get to this cache. Actually, go for the view and find the cache as a bonus. The trip into the woods north of Moosehead will take you by other geocaches and some great views. Maybe moose and deer as well. The cache is an an easy find but the hike up is not. The trail is 2 miles one way and very steep. You will find a few ladders to make it easier on the super steep sections. The view from the top is first class. Katahdin to the north, Moosehead to the south, and 360 degrees of Maine.
This is the second in a series of caches located on fire towers in Maine. The original tower on this mountain was erected in 1906 and then replaced or rebuilt in 1927. Only part of the framework exist today. Parts of the cab can be seen scattered about.
Congrats to Tandemstoker - first to find!
