Stoke Managers - Richie Barker
Permission for the next series of the Stoke Managers caches has been kindly provided by Staffordshire Wildlife Trust. Each cache will continue the Stoke Mangers theme, while also letting you know about one of the inhabitants that may live in these woods. The trust is a great organization that does lots of great work up and down the county, all carried out by funding from the public. Jay Garrulus glandarius
Although they are the most colourful members of the crow family, jays are actually quite difficult to see. They are shy woodland birds, rarely moving far from cover. The screaming call usually lets you know a jay is about and it is usually given when a bird is on the move, so watch for a bird flying between the trees with its distinctive flash of white on the rump. Jays are famous for their acorn feeding habits and in the autumn you may see them burying acorns for retrieving later in the winter. If you look closely there is defiantly one that lives around here as I see it most days and hear it every day.
Please post in your log if you see one of these animals during your caching adventure.

Appointed for the 1981-82 season was sacked in December 1983. Barker had a progressive way of looking at management, realizing that players were running nearly double the distance that they were 20 years previous, it was ultimately this POMO (Position of Maximum opportunity) that lead to his downfall. With a sparkling midfield of Micky Thomas, Mark Chamberlain, Paul Bracewell and new record signing Sammy Mcllroy things looked promising, however, the new way of thinking meant that this midfield was bypassed to get to ball up front as quickly as possible. This idea worked great on a pre season tour of Sweden, scoring 38 goals in 6 games, however, in the English top flight, Barkers ideology’s were not a success and he was sacked before Christmas.
