Kilmacsimon (Irish: Coill Mhic Shíomoin, meaning "Mac Simon's Wood") is a small hamlet situated on the banks of the River Bandon in County Cork, Ireland. Historical records list Killmacsimon in the Calendar of Patent Rolls of James I dated 1615
Kilmacsimon quay is now a sleepy little hamlet on the banks of the Bandon river but for a long period of its history, it was a thriving port servicing the busy town of Bandon, located 5 miles to the west. Due to the expansion of industry in Bandon in the early 1800’s, the town needed a link to the rest of the world to import coal, Maize and other products and also a way to export the items it produced , Cotton, leather and most importantly, whiskey. A new road was constructed from the eastern side of the town at Allmans Distillery (now Bandon Mart and Farm supply store) to Kilmacsimon and a new quay was constructed to allow goods to be shipped down the river to Kinsale and beyond. New cottages were built to accommodate the river pilots and clerks. In the heart of the village stood the Kilmacsimon boat building factory and boat yard. It continued to produce handmade timber boats until the late 1980’s. It was demolished during the Celtic tiger era and the housing development including the huge tower was built on its site.
