Above the Titahi Bay beach is a short walkway from the northern end to the surf lifesaving club with connections to the roads above. Along this walkway are 4 carvings by Nathan Rei of navigators significant in New Zealand's history,
The navigators are, in the order you encounter them: Kupe, Abel Tasman, James Cook and Te Rangihaeata.
Visit waypoint 1 near the start of the path to see the information board about the carvings then take a short walk to get to the cache looking out for the navigators along the way which can be easy to miss if you're not looking for them. One of them is quite consipcuous though.
There are also some nice views overlooking the beach and Mana Island from the walkway
The cache itself is within a few metres of one of the carvings - just off the path. It can be reached without trampling any foliage or disturbing the artwork. You may be tempted to walk over some small flaxes - please walk around them.
Note that the pathway is not lit at night and can be very dark but it is quite navigable by torchlight. Take extra care where you step near GZ if you do this at night. Muggle traffic is suprisingly low even in the summer and doing this in daylight is recommended.
