Geocache Description:

Come and lend a hand to help the East Lothian Countryside Rangers maintain the Musselburgh lagoons. There will be two tasks to chose from, litter picking and/or weeding, which should hopefully cater for all ages and abilities. There is also a CITO virtual souvenir awarded to anyone who attends an offical CITO event this week.

Cache In, Trash Out.

When - Friday 23rd of September 2:30pm until 5:00pm... Group photo at 4:30pm, back at the starting co-ordinates, then some time for blethering and TB swaps, a cuppa and sweet treats!

Where - Meet at the given co-ordinates, the carpark by the pond, Musselburgh Lagoons.

The Musselburgh lagoons were created by reclaiming land along the coast of Musselburgh using the ash waste from the former Cockenzie power station along the road. With the creation of new areas for wildlife, the lagoons have become a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) attracting many birds to roost during migration, including some rare species.

Our tasks will be a litter pick along the paths and through the woods in the area and weeding of a newly planted hedge along the site. The difficulty and terrain is whatever you set your abilities at, it shouldn't be too taxing, but you are responsible for your own safety so only participate to the best of your ability and don't overdo it! the terrain is fairly flat paths and what you'd expect for wooded areas, sturdy footwear is recommended and waterproofs, depending on the weather. Most of the paths are suitable for wheelchairs, but we can't guarantee there will be litter along them!

The end time is a bit of a guesstimate, but there will be a safety briefing at the start time so please arrive promptly. you will be required to sign a briefing sheet to say that you have heard and understood the safety briefing, so if you arrive late please find myself or the ranger to catch up!

This event is held in conjunction with The East Lothian Countryside Rangers, who are very grateful of our help. We welcome all cachers, old and new, local and visiting, so if you're new to caching and would like a hand understanding anything there will be plenty (I hope!) of experienced and friendly people willing to help. Dogs and children are both welcome, but must be supervised by an adult at all times and please bear in mind this is a nature reserve.

Please post a "Will Attend" even if you are unsure, so we can get a rough idea of potential numbers. We look forward to seeing you there!
