Stoke Managers - George Eastham
Permission for the next series of the Stoke Managers caches has been kindly provided by Staffordshire Wildlife Trust. Each cache will continue the Stoke Mangers theme, while also letting you know about one of the inhabitants that may live in these woods. The trust is a great organization that does lots of great work up and down the county, all carried out by funding from the public. If you wish to put something back into the local environment, click on the following link and make a small donation. http://www.staffs-wildlife.org.uk/donate
This is an ideal location for a picnic and a clear area of the woodland where the kids can run around and play.
Blue tit Parus Caeruleus
The commonest of all the tits in the UK, 12cm long weighing 11g, its blue and yellow makings make it easily identifiable, commonly found in mixed woodlands, gardens, parks and hedgerows. Blue tits nest in all types of small holes from trees and buildings to nesting boxes. The timing of their reproduction is relative to the abundance of the moth caterpillar, which is usually around April/May, where they lay between 7-13 eggs in cup shaped nests lined with moss, fur and feathers. The blue tit is a frequent visitor to the bird tables, especially where peanuts are provided. They eat a variety of foods including small insects, spiders, fruit, seeds and nectar. They spend a lot of time on the ground searching for food, making them one of the most frequently seen birds in the uk. Please list all the birds you see during your caching adventure, the wildlife trust will be interested to see what is here and how often it is seen.
Please post in your log if you see one of these animals during your caching adventure.

George Eastham was a non-playing member of the 1966 world cup winning squad, playing for Stoke between 1966-1973, making 194 appearances and scoring 4 goals. Eastham was known for his involvement in improving the players rights to move between clubs, they don’t seem to have any problem with that in today’s climate. Eastham will be most famously remembered for scoring the winning goal in Stokes 1972 League Cup win over Chelsea, to this day, still, Stokes only ever major honour.
His managerial career at Stoke was not as successful as his playing career, taking over from Tony Waddington in March 1977, Eastham failed to keep Stoke in the top flight and was relegated, after failing to mount a successful promotion challenge the following season, he was sacked in January 1978.
