Pharaoh Moans

Tutankhamun, colloquially referred to as King Tut, was an Egyptian pharaoh of the 18th dynasty and ruled from the age of 9 until his death at 18. The 1922 discovery by Howard Carter Tutankhamun's nearly intact tomb received worldwide press coverage. It sparked a renewed public interest in ancient Egypt, for which Tutankhamun's mask remains the popular symbol. What caused Tutankhamun's death at such an early age has been the subject of considerable debate. It was long believed that the young pharaoh was poisoned. A CT scan taken in 2005 showed that he had suffered a compound left leg fracture shortly before his death, and that the leg had become infected. DNA analysis conducted in 2010 showed the presence of malaria in his system. Either of these debilitating conditions would cause great pain and eventual death in ancient times. This could explain the cries of suffering heard throughout the royal palace during King Tut's final days. Though undocumented, there have been numerous reports of a low moaning sound emanating from Tut's mask when observed on display.
