Dead Men Sell No Snails

Q: What would a pirate say in a French Restaurant?
A: Dead men sell no snails!

There were many French and French-American pirates during the Golden Age of Piracy. One of the most famous  was Jean Lafitte, also know as "the barefoot pirate". Lafitte's sleek schooner Escar was for a time the fastest pirate ship sailing the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Captain Jack Narrow, Lafitte's half-cousin and chief rival, particularly coveted the Escar and made several attempts to capture her for himself. Lafitte would sail perilously close to the Black Barnacle only to dash away at the last possible moment. As he made his escape, Lafitte would often taunt Narrow by calling out "Hey, Jacques ... look at my Escar go!
