Meadow Pond... Conserving Wetlands for Wildlife. This site is part of the North American Waterfowl Management Plan. By definition, a wetland is a land area that is saturated with water, either permanently or seasonally, such that it takes on the characteristics of a distinct ecosystem. Wetlands are important because they protect and improve water quality, provide fish and wildlife habitats, store floodwaters and maintain surface flow during dry periods.
