Geocache Description:

This is a cache placed by the 3gs Mens Project to raise awareness of local history, hightlighting important locations roughly along the route of the Glamorganshire Canal diverting slightly along the way.  This route now travels roughly where the Taff Trail runs.  All locations on the Taff Trail are within a metre or two of the tarmac making them inclusive for all abilities.

On the site where you are standing once stood Cyfarthfa House.  In front of the house was the start of the Glamorganshire Canal, a trade route connecting Merthyr Tydfil to the port of Cardiff.  From 1817 - 1840 the ironworks of Merthyr Tydfil sent nearly 2,000,000 tons of iron to Cardiff down the canal.
