Geocache Description:

This is a cache placed by the 3gsmens Project to raise awareness of local history highlighting important locations roughly along the route of the Glamorganshire Canal diverting slightly along the way.  This route now travels roughly where the Taff Trail runs.  All locations on the Taff Trail are within a metre or two of the tarmac path making them inclusive for all abilities.

The Glamorganshire Canal had a huge amount of locks between Cyfarthfa and Abercynon.  Parliament Lock at Ynysfach was next to the Plymouth Weir, which supplied water to the Plymouth Works.  At this Lock in 1794 when the canal was opened a fight broke out between Richard Hill jr of the Plymouth Works and and William Williams the lock keeper.  The fight was over the canal taking water from the Plymouth Works which was used to power Water wheels.  This resulted in one of many court cases between the Hills' and Canal company.
