South Carolina - God's Acre Healing Springs

There is nothing better than a good road trip: driving down the open road, eating at tiny roadside diners, going 150 miles out of the way to take a selfie in front of …. the Peachoid water tower! Oh Say, can you see … me with the world’s largest frying pan?

This geotrail honors those unique, odd, bizarre, fun, historic, campy, weird, and just downright interesting roadside attractions in North and South Carolina. The caches aren’t meant to be hard, it is a power-trail after all. None of the caches are hidden at the posted locations - but answer the question correctly and you will have a working set of coordinates. All of the hides are preform bottles.

Every road trip needs a stop for refreshment, you probably won't find a better one than God's Acre. This natural spring, located in the South Carolina wilderness dates back to at least the Revolutionary War if the legends are to be believed. As the story goes, a handful of fatally wounded British soldiers had wandered into the woods to die but were found by some Native Americans who took them to drink from the healing spring. Despite their grave wounds the soldiers were said to stroll back into their camp six months later, looking like the picture of health. No matter how unlikely, each subsequent owner of the land that the spring is located on capitalized on the spring and perpetuated the myth of the water's healing properties. In 1944 the last owner of the land officially deeded the land to God, both officially and via the informational signs he installed to that effect in the nearby area.
