Geocache Description:

Another Roadside Attraction Geotrail

North Carolina - USS North Carolina (BB-55)

There is nothing better than a good road trip: driving down the open road, eating at tiny roadside diners, going 150 miles out of the way to take a selfie in front of …. the Peachoid water tower! Oh Say, can you see … me with the world’s largest frying pan?

This geotrail honors those unique, odd, bizarre, fun, historic, campy, weird, and just downright interesting roadside attractions in North and South Carolina. The caches aren’t meant to be hard, it is a power-trail after all. None of the caches are hidden at the posted locations - but answer the question correctly and you will have a working set of coordinates. All of the hides are preform bottles.

USS North Carolina (BB-55) was the lead ship of the North Carolina class of Battleships and the fourth warship to be named for the State of North Carolina.  She was the first newly constructed battleship to enter service during WWII. The ship took part in every major naval offensive in the Pacific Theater of Operations, earning 15 battle stars, making her the most decorated American battleship of WWII.  North Carolina was laid down in October 1937 and launched on June 13, 1940.  She carried a powerful main battery of nine 16” (410 mm)/45 caliber Mark 6 guns.  North Carolina was decommissioned on June 27, 1947 and transferred to the state of North Carolina in 1961, where she was dedicated as a memorial to all North Carolinians killed in WWII. The battleship is the #1 tourist attraction in the state of North Carolina.
