Geocache Description:

EARTHCACHES ARE GREAT !!!  Come out and help celebrate with us on Earthcache Day, 2016.

Each year, GSA celebrates International EarthCache Day on the first Sunday of Earth Science Week and the last Sunday of World Space Week. GSA is the Geological Society of America. It is that organization that oversees Earthcaches in conjunction with Groundspeak. In 2016 Earthcache Day is Sunday, October 9th.
To help celebrate, GSA is asking people to visit an EarthCache, run an event cache through Geocaching.com, or attend an event and tell others about how much fun visiting and developing EarthCaches can be.
The event on Sunday, October 9, 2016, begins on land, at the Trent River Bridge on Highway 30. This is a free boat launch, large enough for motor boats and parking for about 8-10 vehicles, though you may park along the small dirt road.

Celebration at flagpole 1:30 - 2:00 pm (Note that I changed the time that was originally 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm as we need time to drive from church)

After the celebration event, you are welcome to paddle with us to the Drifting Islands Earthcache.
It's approximately a 50 minute paddle one-way to the Earthcache.

If the wind speed is predicted to be higher than 25 kms per hour, we will go ahead with the gathering in the park, near the cenotaph and flagpole/boat launch for a social time and cookies, but might cancel the paddle after the event. I will post regular updates as the date approaches regarding weather.

Note - This is Thanksgiving weekend, and the Norwood Fair (with 40,000 visitors in our village of 1200) makes travel on Highway 7 VERY VERY slow through Norwood. I strongly suggest you come to Trent River by another route or turn south in Norwood before the lights and take County Road 42. Just don't go right to the lights in Norwood or you might be there for a while, though the Sunday should be better than the Saturday or Monday.

psssst..... there is going to be a second Earthcache, maybe even a third..... keep watching !!!
