This is a cache placed by the 3GS Mensproject to raise awareness of local history highlighting important locations roughly along the route of the Glamorganshire Canal diverting slightly along the way. This route now travels roughly where the Taff Trail runs. All locations are within a metre or two of the tarmac path making them inclusive for all abilities.
The village of Aberfan was created in the 1870's to house workers for the many nearby collieries. Nearly 100 years after the village was created it saw a disaster unlike any other. On October 21st 1966 a coal tip slid down the mountainside at Aberfan and buried Pantglas School as well as other parts of the village. 116 children and 28 adults lost their lives.
