This is a cache placed by the 3gs Mens Project to raise awareness of local history highlighting important locations roughly along the route of the old Glamorganshire Canal diverting slightly along the way. This route now travels roughly where the Taff Trail runs. All locations on the Taff Trail are within a metre or two of the tarmac path making them inclusive for all abilities.
In February 1804 Richard Trevithick made history. He becane the first person in the world to run a steam locomotive on rails. The locomotive also carried passengers and cargo and went from Penydarren to Abercynon and back again travelling at a top speed of around 5mph. The information card illustrates Trevithick's travelling roadshow and how he promoted his achievement across the country. The picture is from Euston Square, London 1809.
