Treble Clef #32 - Filmmusik, die vierte
Zu den Zeiten des Stummfilmes wurde die musikalische Untermalung (zumeist nur von einem Klavier) nicht nur als zusätzliches Stimmungselement dienen, sie sollte u.a. auch das Rattern der alten Filmprojektoren übertönen und ebenso die düstere Stimmung in den Vorführräumen etwas lindern, denn diese mussten aufgrund der schlechten Qualität der Projektoren völlig verdunkelt werden. Inzwischen sind viele Jahrzehnte ins Land gezogen und die Entwicklung sowohl im Film- aus auch im Musikbereich haben die ersten Jahre vergessen lassen. Wie damals bei den ersten Tonfilmen werden beide Teile mehr oder weniger zeitgleich produziert, meist bekommt der Filmmusikkomponist eine Art Rohschnitt des Filmes, in dem die Stellen, die musikalisch untermalt werden sollen markiert sind. Oft wird von den Regisseuren bereits in diesem Rohschnitt eine vorläufige Musikspur angelegt und es kommt auch vor, dass diese dann beibehalten wird (wie z.B. bei „2001: Odyssee im Weltraum“). Bei Fernsehproduktionen wird häufig auf bestehendes Material zurückgegriffen, da neue Produktionen meist zu teuer wären. Worauf wollte ich eigentlich hinaus? Achja, wie nennt man diese vorläufige Tonspur, die beim Rohschnitt der Filme hinterlegt ist? (englische Bezeichnung)

In the times of silent movies the background music (most times only done by a single piano) didn´t only have atmospheric reasons, it also was there to drown out the rattling of the old film projectors and because oft he bad quality of these machines the rooms had to be totally darkened so it was quite spooky in there, the music also had a soothing effect to that. Since that time many decades ago the development in music and film business made us forget about these pioneer years. Like in that time both film and music is produced at the same time more or less. The writer of the score gets a raw cut of the movie where the passages that should be accentuated with music are marked. Most times in this raw cut there is already music in it placed by the directors and sometimes it happens, that this music later becomes the score itself without any more influence (seen at „2001: A space Odyssey“). Music in TV productions is often taken from already exising material because the costs of producig new one would be too high. What did I want you to ask?
