Geocache Description:

This cache is in place to honor the space occupied buy the New Middletown village municipal building and the Welker Park.

The municipal building for the village of New Middletown Ohio represents the visions of Mr. John Welker. The land was held by the Welker family for 100 years, until John's son Jacob inherited the land. Upon his death he left it to the Haller family, until the death of Mrs. Haller, at which time the land was to be donated to New Middletown. Mr. Welker had stated that he desired the land to be used as a center of recreation for the community. The lot of land now maintained by the Municipal organization also includes seven acres which was bought in the early 1910's. Through its history, this land has housed the township (eventually the village) fire department and civic center. the current Municipal Building was constructed in the late 1950's. This structure has also housed the village fire department, as well as the general municipal body, the municipal court, the New Middletown village police department, the local library, emergency rescue department, a recycling center, water center, and other functions.

The land has been used for civic purposes since 1914, yet Mr. Welker's wishes for creating a center for recreation was not considered until 1966 when the "Jacob Welker Memorial Association" was formed. this organization raised money attempting to make the best of Mr. Welker's wishes. In the early 2000's, Welker Park was established and continues to grow. This public park includes a play area, a tennis court, basketball court, beach volleyball, a skate park, black-top walking trail, and two picnic pavilions. The park is open year round from 9 A.M. until dusk every day.

You will be looking for a small pill bottle wrapped in fatigue green duct tape. For the sake of sanity, it is not in the child's play area, but it may be a bit hard to reach alone. BYOP. Please be discrete if you find it with others around. Children and families often frequent the park, and much of the park is viewable by the police surveillance system.
