Created by a local teen marine science club, we hope this cache helps to raise awareness of the threats that marine debris & trash pose to our oceans. Along the way, we encourage you to collect any trash you find & dispose of it properly in order to help the environment. By doing this, we can continue to geocache in pristine & beautiful places without the eyesore of pollution that threatens the organisms we love.
This cache is dedicated to the marine mammals of Sarasota Bay, which include manatees and bottlenose dolphins. Within eyesight of a local marine research facility, this cache is also close to the water. Marine mammals are especially vulnerable to becoming entangled in monofilament fishing line in the oceans so as you look for the cache, be sure to collect trash and fishing line and dispose of it in the bins you may see near the water (fishing line is recycled in the large upright white PVC Pipe containers on the docks).
