El museo Pilar Defilló es una casa histórica en la Calle Méndez Vigo donde nació en 1853, Pilar Defilló Amiguet, la madre del famoso chelista internacional, Pablo Casals. La casa fue construida en los años 1840’s y tiene un estilo colonial neo-clásico y fue un centro de actividad cultural y social muy activo durante la niñez de Pilar. En 1956, Casals, por fin, visita Mayagüez y conoce el exótico pueblo de los cuentos de su madre. Su llegada fue todo un acontecimiento y el salón de estar de ese hogar se convirtió en sala de concierto. Ese día se cerró la calle Méndez Vigo para acomodar a la multitud que fue a escuchar al maestro Casals junto a los hermanos Figueroa en un concierto de cámara para homenajear a su madre. La casa-museo puede ser visitada de miércoles a domingo entre 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Tiene una pequeña galería de fotos, mobiliario de la época y una hermosa escultura en bronce de Don Pablo tocando su violonchelo. El museo está localizado en la Calle Méndez Vigo #21 en el casco del pueblo de Mayagüez.

The Museum Pilar Defilló is a historic home at 21 Calle Mendez Vigo where Pilar Defilló Amiguet, mother of the world-famous cellist Pablo Casals, was born on 1853. The house was built in the 1840’s in the colonial neo-classic style and was the center of much social and cultural activity during Pilar’s childhood. In 1956, Casals finally visited Mayaguez and met the exotic town of this mother’s tales. His arrival was a big event, and the living room of the home became a concert hall. That day, the Mendez Vigo Street was closed to accommodate the crowd that came to listen to the famous cellist who played along with the famous Figueroa Brothers, in a chamber concert to honor his mother. The house-museum can be visited from Wednesday to Sunday between 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. It has a photo gallery of Pablo and the Defilló-Amiguet family, vintage furniture and a beautiful sculpture of Don Pablo playing his cello. The museum is located on Mendez Vigo # 21 street in Mayaguez’ downtown.
