De universiteit Maastricht is de jongste universiteit in Nederland, ze is opgericht in 1976. De universiteit is bekend om haar probleem gestuurd onderwijs (PGO). In deze vorm van onderwijs leren de studenten door het werken met relevante problemen. Ze werken in kleine groepen van ongeveer 10 studenten met een tutor. Deze onderwijsgroepen komen enkele keren per week bij elkaar. Hoewel er ook wel colleges worden gegeven vormen deze onderwijsgroepen de ruggengraat van het systeem.
Op de Randwyck campus zijn twee faculteiten te vinden, the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life sciences, en the faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience. Ook het academisch ziekenhuis (MUMC) is hier te vinden. De campus is ontwikkeld door stedenbouwkundig bureau Ungers/von Brandt en uitgewerkt door architectenbureau Aan de Maas. De campus heeft de vorm van een stadsmuur en vormt de Medizenische Kleinstadt. Dit gebouw, de universiteitssingel 60, is in 2005 aan de stadsmuur toegevoegd.
Het kastanjelaantje is deel van het oorspronkelijke landschap. Voordat de universiteit hier gebouwd werd was het landbouwgrond. Veel werknemers kijken toe hoe de kraaien hier elk jaar hun nest bouwen. Ook vormt het laantje een goede plek om even te zitten en over wetenschappelijke problemen na te denken.

Maastricht University is the youngest university of the Netherlands, it was founded in 1976. It is famous for its problem-based learning (PBL). Problem based learning provides learning opportunities for students by making them work through relevant problems. Students work in small groups of about 10 students and a tutor. They meet several times a week. While lectures are given, those tutorials are the backbone of the system.
The Randwyck campus houses the Faculty of Health, Medicine, and Life sciences and the faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience. It is also home to the academic hospital (MUMC). The area is developed by urban development bureau Ungers/Von Brandt and further developed by architect bureau Aan de Maas. The campus is shaped as a city wall and it part of the Medizinische Kleinstadt. This building, called universiteitssingel 60, was added to the city wall in 2005.
The chestnut lane is part of the original landscape, this area was a farmland area before the Randwyck campus was built here. Many employees enjoy seeing the birds build their nests here. It's also a good place to sit down and think about scientific problems.
