The characters in this geocache description are based on the hugely popular Netflix original TV show Stranger Things. If you have not watched it yet, you are missing out.
Mission Details:
While trying to find Eleven after she disappears while battling the monster at the school, Mike, Dustin, Lucas, and Will have been scouring the forests near Mirkwood (the intersections of Cornwallis and Kerley). Their hope is that they will locate the portal into the Upside-Down that Jonathan and Nancy located earlier.
Unfortunately for the four boys, they located the portal and discovered a monster while inside the Upside-Down. The four boys managed to barely escape back through the portal. During the frantic escape from the forest, the boys lost their case which contained their monster fighting supplies (Flashlight, slingshot, knife, compass, walkie-talkies, headbands, and snacks).
Your task is to retrace the boys escape route through the forest and see if you can locate their much needed case. Finding this case is imperative for the boys to have the equipment they need to find Eleven.
You can use your GPS to find this letterbox hybrid cache; trailhead, a mid-route coordinate, and the final coordinates are provided for you, but I suggest the more challenging option of finding the cache as a letterbox only hunt. The choice is yours!
The LETTERBOX ONLY route is as follows:
From the trailhead, follow the trail until you reach a fork in the trail. Take the right fork and continue following the trail for awhile. You will come to a small footbridge. Cross over the footbridge and continue following this trail that gradually goes uphill. You will come to a junction eventually and at the junction turn left and continue on with your journey. After awhile you will come to another fork in the trail, the boys are pretty sure they came from the left trail so take the fork to the left. You will know you are on the right trail if you pass by a very large stump that has a tree growing out of it and a few springboard notches are in the large stump also. This large stump should be on the right side of the trail, if not you are lost. Once you find the large stump, continue on down the trail. The trail will eventually start to gradually go downhill. You will be getting close to the lost case when you notice the trail changes from a normal dirt trail to a rocky trail with lots of larger gravel chunks. Once you notice this change in the trail start looking for a cluster of larger sized trees on the left side of the trail. There is also a very mossy log laying amongst the cluster of trees. Look around the base of the cluster of trees and under the mossy log and you should find the case. Use extreme caution though as this is the location of the portal to the Upside-Down. If the portal is open, run away, do not look for the cache! Run away very quickly!
Good luck!
