Near the Kawerau Intersection is a pull over area where the stray chickens hang out. If you catch this early morning one of the locals will have dumped their scraps for the hungry critters. How the chickens came about to be in this spot is unknown! I guess one day, one went cock-a-doodle-doo and was set free!
Please take extreme care when entering and exiting the pull over area. It is best approached heading towards Te Teko from the intersection.
