Geocache Description:

This woodland area is known as Cubby Wood. From the car park, head off along the main track heading north-west. Cross the cattle grid and head into the woods, where you will find this cache a short distance off the path. The cache is a small plastic tub in a camouflage bag. You will need a pen or pencil. Please replace as found. There is room for small trackables.

General Notes

This is the 1st cache of 6 hidden on a trail around the Killerton Parkland. This area has always been a favourite for family walks, and I thought it would be a perfect place for a cache series. The Killerton Parkland is free to access, and the route has been designed in such a way that you need not enter through the main reception. This walk, however, goes within a few hundred meters of Killerton Gardens. Please do not enter the gardens unless you are either a National Trust member or intending to pay. The Parkland is open every day from dawn till dusk.

I have placed a variety of containers to keep things interesting, including a couple of sneaky hides. The walk is approximately 1.5 miles long and will probably take anywhere between 45 and 90 minutes to complete. It is all set on well-defined footpaths through woodland and across a couple of fields. In the winter it may be wet and slippery underfoot, so anticipate mud if it has rained heavily. Tree cover makes getting a good GPS reading difficult, so I have provided clear hints for each cache.

Parking – Parking is available at the start of the trail, as indicated by the waypoints. Alternatively, park in the main Killerton Car Park and follow the main path into the parkland. Then, use your GPS to navigate the short walk to cache #5, where you can pick up the trail.

Killerton has a very positive attitude towards families – this route goes past a natural play area and a designated area for building dens. Dogs are welcomed in the Parkland, but please keep them on a lead near livestock. The trail is not suitable for wheelchairs, pushchairs or bicycles.

I would personally recommend completing the trail starting at the parking area in the waypoints and have written instructions for this approach. However, the trail can be completed via many routes, and with your GPS it shouldn't be too difficult to navigate between the caches out of order should you choose to do so.

I hope you enjoy completing this trail!

Many thanks to the National Trust for their kind permission for me to place the series.
