Wavertree Playground is also known locally as The Mystery. This is because in 1895 when a stately home was demolished it looked like the grounds would be sold for development. However, a mysterious anonymous donor bought the land and presented it to the City of Liverpool as a recreational area.
For more than a century, the park has stood as welcome area of recreation, but it has never been fully developed as a community park. Recently it has been decided that for the first time Wavertree Playground will indeed have a playground installed.
