Geocache Description:

Don't be frightened. He isn't real. Meet IGOR.  This is a nano, and to avoid causing any disruptions of business, the hint is NE corner of the carrying device. It is definitely placed with the business' permission.

The large mouse you see in front of you, his name is IGOR. But there is more to the story. In 1943, Carl and Nellie Bahl started their new business venture by buying out the old Peacock Creamery. This new building sitting before you was built in 1956. Then called the Fennimore Butter & Cheese Factory was not only the Dairy Showcase for Southern Wisconsin, but it was one of th emost modern plants in the whole state. Nellie passed away in 1957 and their son Steve stepped in to fill her shoes. With father Carl by his side, the Bahls became world reknown when they traveled to Denmark, WI to help manufacture the world's largest piece of cheddar cheese weighing in at 35,000 lbs. It was featured at the Worlds Fair in 1964. Carl soon passed and in 1969 Steve added on to this building and started accepting Grade A milk and the the new name of thge company became Bahl A Milk Company. New equipment was installed and a new type of cheese, Baby Swiss, was developed in this plant. The tangy, low-fat, semi-soft cheese became highly desirable to the American cheese-eating public. It was a featured item in the gourment sections of Marshall Field and Company, Nieman Marcus and Macys. This is when IGOR was created. This large fiberglass mouse has welcomed people to Fennimore since 1979. In 1976 they expanded one final time, creating the glassed in portion of the building before you, and also creating the observation deck so that the sales and cheese making portions could be separated. Cheese production stopped here in 2001 and in 2005 the business was sold to Sid Cook and Carr Valley Cheese. New lines of delicious cheeses were created and shipped here and fresh curd can be found here almost daily. Thanks for stopping here !
