Geocache Description:

This cache was placed as part of an Eagle Scout Project to help with the Down Town Revitilization Project to encourage tourism and geocachers to get out, exercise and enjoy our beautiful area!

The Gaitskill Mound Mound was built by The Adena people who lived in this area 2,000 - 3,000 years ago. Engraved stone tablets, skeletons, hammered copper bracelets and other artifacts were found in this mound when it was excavated.  Two rare stone tablets were found at this site. The copper is believed to have been mined from the Lake Superior area and brought here by the way of early trade routes that passed through the area. The Adena people survived by growing simple crops and hunting. This Adena Mound is considered to be one of the best preserved mounds discovered.  It is listed on the National Register of Historical Places.

The Mound is on private property so we ask that no one cross the fence to the mound.  The cache is located outside the fence line so no need to cross anyway.
