Butters Bridge (also know as the Poo Bridge) is named after Sir John Henry Butters (1885-1969). He was the First Chief Commissioner of the Federal Capital Commission, and President of the Institution of Engineers, Australia (1927-28).
The Bridge is a post-tensioned box girder design, and is 242m long! (One of the longest pedestrian bridges in the Southern Hemisphere supposedly). At its highest point it is 25m above the Molonglo river below. It was designed for pedestrian and cycle use, and also carries a large trunk sewer.
Please BYO pen.
