Garryowen is the only town within the perimeter of the battlefield. It is a polished complex of buildings, monuments, manuscripts, and living history. From Garryowen, the entire scope of the battle is visible, including the site where Custer was last seen alive, Major Reno’s retreat and hilltop defense sites, Weir Point, Last Stand Hill, Medicine Tail Coulee, the Crow’s Nest, and the Wolf Mountains. Its acreage borders the original bank of the Little Big Horn at the time of the battle.
At EXIT 514, Garryowen has its own off- and on-ramps to I-90, federal interstate signage, and is midway between Mount Rushmore National Monument and Yellowstone Park, two of the biggest tourist attractions in the United States
