American Bald Eagle

There are two eagles found in Kentucky. The Bald Eagle and the Golden Eagle.

Bald Eagles were once common in Kentucky but during the mid 1900’s experience widespread declines and by the 1960’s had all bud vanished. With the banning of DDT in 1972 eagle introduction project began in earnest in the 1980’s Since then the population of Bald Eagles in Kentucky has continued to increase with more than 123 nesting areas.

Bald Eagles in Kentucky usually lay eggs from January to March, but will begin nest building or repair of existing nest as early as October. Eagles young usually leave the nest from April to July.  

Like its cousin the bald eagle, the much rarer golden eagle is making a comeback in Kentucky, where at least 15 are now spending their winters. One of them was in Bernheim the winter of 2014

You are looking for a camouflaged small tube hidden just inside the woods at the Magruder Meadow picnic area. 

This cache placement has been approved by Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest.  
For more information about Bernheim Arboretum And Research Forest  including current operating hours.  There is no admission fee at Bernheim on Monday through Friday.  On Saturday & Sunday there is a $5 fee per passenger car, or motorcycle.
