Auburn Dairy Products was established by James J. Rice in the mid 1920's, but his family had been tied to the Auburn area long before that, they settled here in the 1880's when Auburn was named Slaughter, after Lt. William Slaughter who died in battle. Later, in 1893, Slaughter, was renamed " Auburn" when settlers from Auburn, New York settled in the area.
