Rocket man Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

StreetWalkerNZ: The tree is still standing, but with a number of branches gone, including some that were useful in climbing, and the branch the cache was attached to. I could replace the cache, but I think the tree is now harder to climb, most locals have found the cache, and I suspect the tree will be taken down in the next few months. So, time to archive.

Geocache Description:

If slitherlink puzzles are putting you in a spin, then maybe its time for a more physical challenge...

Sir William Pickering is NZ's most famous rocket scientist, so it's not surprising that the road through the Canterbury Technology Park is named after him (as is Pickering Crescent in Hamilton, and William Pickering Drive in Albany). As street names go, 'Sir William Pickering Drive' is a bit of a mouthful. Sadly, the width of the road is not in proportion to the length of its name. Having a narrow 'slow' road probably seemed like a good idea at the time, but these days the road carries a lot of traffic (including the 120 bus route) and it is far too narrow (at peak times I bike on the footpath).

You should have no problem spotting this cache from GL; it is a pill bottle inside a clear plastic container in a rocket-like life form (a pine tree) next to the road. The container dangles from a small branch close to the main trunk. You will however have two problems in retrieving it. One is picking a time when the muggle factor is low enough to make the grab (that rules out office hours). The other is to achieve the appropriate amount of 'lift off' in order to get the cache. You need to be a confident tree climber to get to the cache.
