Origins of the Vampire: Attack Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

AddHam: Went out to do maintenance on the series and found out 2 of them had to be archived. It's also disheartening what happened to this one so we're regrettably pulling the whole series early. Hopefully, we'll have better luck next year.

Geocache Description:

The myth of vampires has soaked itself into our lives and has saturated our pop culture for decades. You may want to think that vampires can be sexy and sparkly or be correct by thinking vampires are horrifying and demonic. Either way, you have seen the movies, heard the stories, and pretty much know all the hallmarks of these dark creatures. But do you know the origins of the vampiric characteristics? This year’s Hallowed Series attempts to explain the facts behind the myths...purely for educational purposes, of course. If you’re just in it for the smiley’s then go find the caches. However, if you’re into the lessons, read the cache pages along with the texts at the cache locations in the following order: Attack, Awareness, Vanquished, and finally, Transformation. Good luck.

Let’s begin by laying down the tenants of the modern day Vampire that we have come to know: Vampires feed on human blood, they only come out at night/avoid the sun, sleep during the day in coffins, can be killed with a stake through the heart, are considered un-dead, etc. These characteristics have evolved in the movies and literature since they were first popularized as hallmarks of vampires by Bram (or Abraham) Stoker in the 18th Century. To write his text of Dracula, he did some serious research into folklore and legend and pulled from pieces here and there. He even went as far as to name his character after a real person. Dracula means “Son of Dracul” and refers to the son of Vlad Dracul, or more commonly known as Vlad the Impaler. A person in history far more terrible than Stoker’s Dracula, for sure. But what of the original folklore? The source material for Stoker’s basis and all other modern twists on the creature we know today?

Due to some rotten muggle destroying and stealing stage 2, and having no time with Halloween coming up and a baby in the next couple days, we're not going to be replacing or altering this cache. We just don't have the resources/time for that. SO, instead Just go to the trailhead at stage 1. IGNORE the firetacks. Follow the creek trail and find the last stage at
