Geocache Description:

CO2 + H2O ↔ H2CO3
Disociación acuosa del ácido carbónico:
H2CO3 + H2O → H3O+ + HCO3-

To start talking about a sinkhole, we must first make an introduction to what is a karst or karst landscape.
these occur there where the climate is tropical or subtropical, with mild climate, warm and humid, sinkholes are relict of a typical karst.

As we know, animals, factories and industries release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, so when it rains, water runs into this carbon dioxide and is "trapped" in, this leads to q we know commonly as "acid rain"

Under the following sequence:

Dissolution of carbon dioxide:
CO2 + H2O ↔ H2CO3
aqueous dissociation of carbonic acid:
H2CO3 + H2O → H3O + + HCO3-

On earth we have 3 major classifications of rocks, igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary, for which we will only focus on the latter, sedimentary.

In turn the sedimentary rocks can be subdivided into two general groups according to their composition, and these are the siliciclastic and carbonate.

for the formation of sinkholes, let's focus on carbonate rocks.
The main protagonist of the formation of the sinkhole will be the acid rain as explained above since the carbonate rocks are easily attacked, meteroizadas and dissolved by these fluids low pH

Under the following sequence:

Carbonates acid attack ( "chalky"):
H3O + + Ca2 + + ↔ CaCO3 + H2O HCO3-
Balance equation:
CaCO3 + CO2 + H2O ↔ Ca2 + + 2 HCO3-

Now if we go with sinkholes, once we get it all explained above, we know that a sinkhole is "something" q is produced by the attack of rain and essentially that is.
A sinkhole is a depression in the ground, this may be sharp or mild slopes,

Formation of sinkholes and because of their outstanding!

Well, imagine a sequence of rocks carbonate (attackable) starting at the surface and ends 3 meters below this since then is a (non attackable) siliciclastic rock, rain will attack this rock and will dissolve forming a deprecion forms and as this depression will be a perfect place for the accumulation of water that will generate a higher concentration of water and place greater attack.
On the other hand imagine a carbonatic sequence but starting with siliciclastic material rain will percolate through the first layer of rock without altering it, when you reach the rocky material Carbonatic effected dissolution leaving a karstic hole in the ground, and by an earthquake or same weight of overlying rock collapsed leaving a fast and steep depression.

They are only natural?

Sinkholes are not only natural, also can be the result of direct human activity, ie anthropic presures, this may occur by the rupture of unaa underground pipe, sewage or waste, anger this water directly into the watery torrent underground and where between in contact with a carbonate rock dissolution began, and if the problem persists a sinkhole which can be very dangerous because it can be formed to be in the middle of a home or an automobile route

Abstract!

So we have two types of sinkholes, by dissolution (the example of siliciclastic layer below) and collapse (example of siliciclastic layer above)

Preguntas --- Answer

To register the cache must be stopped against the wall chart on site to answer the following questions by mail to nicolas.elizalde@live.com, or by private message to NICOELI92 or any way you prefer to send me the answers :

Go to the place and respond.

A) If you look much detail you could see that the slopes of the sinkhole looks like one of the two examples cited above, therefore you believe that this corresponds to a sinkhole sinkhole by dissolution or collapse?

B) As you can see there are two sinkholes virtually connected to each other, q may be due to this?
